Utah man charged with attempted hate crime after online threats to blow up a synagogue

Why it mattersThe warning signs were posted online first. Every house of worship needs a simple way to receive, log and escalate threat reports, and a working contact at local law enforcement.

House bill would pay Nonprofit Security Grant funds upfront instead of by reimbursement

Reps. Susie Lee (D-Nev.) and Maria Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) introduced the Nonprofit Security Grant Program Funding Improvement Act on Oct. 6. It would let nonprofits receive NSGP money before they buy security upgrades. The bill has been introduced; no committee action yet.

Why it mattersReimbursement keeps many small congregations out of NSGP because they cannot front the cost of cameras, doors and lighting. Upfront funding would open the program to them.
